Portrait in Plastic
An old project gets new life thanks to a film about artist John Singer Sargent
Last night, Mike and I went to the SIFF Film Center to see Exhibition on Screen: John Singer Sargent: Fashion & Swagger. The film inspired me to share these dramatic portraits that I created for the Plastic Bag Project conceived by Anita Dzirne-Irlen of Look for the Woman.
I never shared these photos before because I took them just days before Seattle went into lockdown in March 2020. I lost my creative voice after that and have yet to find my way back to it consistently. However, after seeing that film, I was reminded of the project and the fun I’d had creating both the outfit and the photos, so finally, more than four years later, I feel ready to share them.
Did you lose your creative voice during the pandemic? If so, have you rediscovered it?

I love those photos. Your outfit is amazing, and your makeup is perfect - so, so striking. I hope that when our creative voice goes quiet, it means that we're just looking around, learning, waiting until the right moment - sort of like those volcanic eruptions that I find so mesmerizing. When the pressure has built up enough, it will find its way out, and what emerges will be powerful and beautiful.
Sherry! These are so stunning and evocative! I hope the Japan trip and Colorado and maybe even Dina 😉 plus a little yoga are simmering around in there to have your creativity burst forth with new life very soon. Thanks for sharing these. 💕
